How can fluorine compounds be used?
The anti-caries effect of fluorine compounds occurs mainly in four ways;
Adding a certain proportion of fluorine compounds to drinking water (a method that must be carried out by special methods and trained personnel!)
By giving ready-to-sell fluorine tablets to the child.
Taking advantage of the effect of fluorine compounds added to toothpaste or mouthwashes
In the practice of the dentist in the form of special gel-like fluorine compounds on the teeth.
Among these applications, the easiest method is brushing the teeth in the morning and evening with a fluoride toothpaste from the age of 3 and the use of fluoride mouthwash after 6 years of age. Other applications are not widely used in our country yet.
Are there any dental caries prevention methods?
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to get a caries vaccine because tooth decay is caused by a variety of factors, such as the structure of the tooth, the type of germs in the mouth, the diet, or the structure of the saliva. However, the structure of the tooth can be strengthened by various methods.
Is it possible to prevent tooth decay in other ways?
Another method used to prevent tooth decay is to cover the recesses on the chewing surfaces of the teeth (these are called fissures) by the dentist with so-called fissure sealants. Since microbes or food residues in the mouth are located mostly in these recessed areas of the teeth, retention of microbes and food is prevented by the coating of fissures and caries formation is prevented. Fissure sealers are very successful in preventing tooth decay!
Are fluorine compounds harmful to the body?
Fluorine is an essential element for the body. However, if taken too much, it may change the color of the teeth or cause deformations of the bones. Therefore, applications other than toothpaste and mouthwash must be performed under the supervision of a physician.
